This is becoming a 'hot topic'!
In a world where music has never played such an important part in harmony, I'm guessing very few people understand the need to make things difficult for travelling musicians. The Jazz scene in the UK has long enjoyed a reciprocal approach to sharing international talent and it has provived the chance to explore fresh talents and styles - long may it continue!
We hear conflicting stories of a £244 charge for entry visas...
Artists will need a Tier 5 visa to visit the UK for work – encompassing performances, auditions, workshops, festival appearances, talks and events. It is expected to cost £244 and will come into force in January 2021, following the end of the Brexit transition period in December 2020.
At this point, it is not clear whether this may become a wider policy involving other countries - say, the US. It is certainly being talked about!
It has been voiced from somewhere within the Government that this move will never come about in the UK. We can but hope that common sense prevails and that the music scene continues to offer the opportunity to explore and enjoy the best medicine life can offer!
